Music and Movement take the child into the world not only surrounding him or her but to the world at large in terms of sounds, melodies, tunes and language. Music and Movement are important for brain development and as Diefenbacher (1999) explains “musical aptitude, unlike language and math, does not have the potential to improve significantly after early childhood” (p. 32). This segment develops and also includes the use of some larger motor skills, which have also been shown to be clearly associated with a child’s brain development. Children need to move to learn.
