Creativity is flow. Complete concentration with no awareness of time passing. Dr. Maria Montessori called concentration in children “normalisation” and believed this was, in essence, the beginning of education. When we are so captivated by an activity – whatever it is – we are in flow. It might be baking a cake, or dancing, or writing… Time flies and we even forget to eat! What actually happens is that our mind has a chance to quieten down. It’s like meditating. Here, we allow Spirit and the wisdom of the Universe to guide us. We come out of flow feeling refreshed. We feel happy and at peace. We are fulfilled.
Notice and encourage flow in children. Pablo Picasso said “every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.”
